Asbestos is Still a Threat

If you've watched daytime TV you have seen the countless advertisements for mesothelioma victims to contact Joe Attorney. These lawyers and their suits have spanned well over four decades now. While the victims of this serious form of cancer need to be taken care of, many lawyers have found new ways to claim their bounty.
When the illness first appeared and the coloration to asbestos had been discovered, lawyers made them into class action suits. They would find multiple parties affected by the disease, bundle them together and go after a company that they had in common. Sometimes parties in suits were classified as “non-malignant” and still awarded. These suits put hundreds of companies into bankruptcy. Soon courts caught on to what many attorneys were doing and decided that they could not make such grand cases against companies. Recently these firms have taken a new direction for their cause.
About 90% of people with lung cancer are smokers, which is no surprise to anyone alive today. In 1966 cigarettes were branded with “Cigarette smoking may be hazardous to your health”, and they've only increased in severity since. In the past few years, a few lawyers have decided to link lung cancer with asbestos even if the victim is a smoker. Several lawyers state that smoking and asbestos exposure cause an even greater catalyst for cancer, but there is not enough evidence to support it. It has turned these peoples' illnesses into a bit of a circus of litigation.

None of this takes away from the seriousness of mesothelioma, lung cancer, or the dangers of asbestos exposure. If you suspect or are unsure if your home or office building may contain asbestos then it is essential to your health to have it inspected. A Mac. Contracting is an asbestos abatement company in Rockland County with years of experience and knowledge. If you have any questions or concerns about asbestos in your home or building, A Mac. Asbestos Risk and Removal

Recently Democratic Rep Carolyn McCarthy was diagnosed with lung cancer. The firm of Weitz & Luxenberg filed a class action suit on behalf of McCarthy accusing more than 70 different companies of potentially contaminating the congresswoman. There are a few things that the suit fails to mention though, McCarthy smoked heavily for 40 years – and she never worked with the cancer linked fibre.
The suit claims she cam into contact with asbestos when she was a youth and her father and brother worked as boiler makers. Citing that the caustic fibres attached to both men's clothing. Some of the companies named in the suit include Goodyear Tire, Con Ed and Pfizer. Her smoking habits were never formally mentioned in the suit filed.
The National Cancer Institute says there are factors that play in the risk of developing any asbestos related diseases:

  • Dose – how much asbestos an individual was exposed to asbestos
  • Duration – how long an individual was exposed or susceptible
  • Size, shape and chemical makeup of the asbestos fibres (The US EPA defines six different mineral types as asbestos)
  • Source of the exposure
  • Individual risk factors, such as smoking and other pre-existing lung diseases.

If you suspect that your home or commercial building may contain asbestos it is essential that you contact an asbestos removal company immediately. A Mac. Contracting offers 100% safes asbestos removal in NY backed by over 25 years of experience.

Commercial Asbestos Removal

The 1980's were a special time in American history. There were many keys to making this decade standout, but some did not stand the test of time. Try telling kids these days that people used to grow sea monkeys in their house, then explain how disappointing they really were. Explain that before Xbox and Playstation, it was Nintendo and Atari. Now try explaining how George Michael and Boy George. Explain that 30 years ago, the device that everyone seems to have now, was a monster of a brick that you couldn't even fit in your pocket, it had a handle. Most things from the 80's we thought would last forever. Believe it or not, asbestos was one of those things.
I'm sure no one got that excited over the use of insulation; asbestos was a material that many Americans, and people worldwide, believed was safe. Like most of the things from the 80's we now realize how wrong we were. Asbestos is a very dangerous material that is still found in many buildings that were constructed during this time.
Due to its price, fire resistance and insulation qualities, asbestos was used in many commercial and industrial buildings. If you believe that your building may contain asbestos, you should contact a commercial asbestos removal company immediately. A Mac. Contracting specializes in asbestos removal for commercial and residential buildings, ensuring complete asbestos removal from your property.

Asbestos Awareness Month in Australia is This November

This November is the inaugural Asbestos Awareness Month across Australia, where 1 in 3 households has dangerous levels of asbestos that is causing harm to the people living there. Australia is a major source for asbestos mining and saw an incredible amount of structural asbestos use as the country developed in the late 20th century. Middle-aged residents of Australia are being diagnosed with asbestos-related problems at an increasing rate, facilitating a nationwide month of awareness about the symptoms of the deadly diseases that exposure to asbestos can cause.

Although asbestos is an issue throughout the world, Canada, South Africa and Australia are three of the biggest hot spots for illness and health disorders associated with this mineral. The cheap and durable qualities of asbestos made it a popular building material in growing countries, but the price is now being paid as the public learns more about the harmful characteristics of asbestos.

A Mac Contracting is a New Jersey asbestos removal company with experience safely removing asbestos throughout the tri-state area. There is still plenty of asbestos in the world, and you should always take steps to remove this chemical if you believe it is present in your home or business.

Asbestos Surveys NJ

Even though asbestos was made illegal four decades ago, there are still many structures remaining with the toxic materials. Unfortunately, it is impossible to tell if a substance is composed of asbestos simply by looking at it. Testing must be done. If you suspect that a floor, wall or ceiling may be made of asbestos, A Mac Contracting Inc is a professional company that provides asbestos surveys in NJ.

Asbestos is very harmful. It is strongly advised that if you have asbestos in your home or business to call a professional and not try to remove it by yourself. Here are some facts about asbestos:

  • Asbestos is mined from a group of thin and strong naturally fibrous minerals.
  • There are several types of asbestos, including Chrysotile, Amosite, Crocidolite, Tremolite, Anthophyllite and Actinolite.
  • Although all forms of asbestos are considered to be dangerous, more forms of cancer and Mesothelioma have been linked to Chrysotile than any other form.
  • Asbestos is mined from the ground using an open-pit method. It originally resembles coarse wood and is refined into fluffy fibers. Most asbestos is found in Canada, South Africa, Australia and former Soviet Union countries.

If you are in need of a NJ asbestos survey, contact A Mac Contracting Inc.
